Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell joined CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was made chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable reports over the years, such as the tax reforms, budget reforms and the Iran Contra affair. She traveled frequently along with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
